The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education came into being in 1969 by an Act No.14 of 1968. Till 1982, the Board had it’s headquarter at Shimla, which was afterward shifted to Dharamshala in Kangra District in 1983. The Education Board imposes syllabi, courses of instructions and text books for school education in Himachal Pradesh besides carrying examinations based on such courses. The first examination was conducted by the Board in 1970 at 99 examination centers. Currently, holding in opinion the increased number of candidates and typical geographical conditions of the Pradesh, the Board has found 1650 Examination centers throughout the State.
