The Concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) was Introduced in the State Bank of India as early as 1973,

The Initial Emphasis was on Assisting Groups Belonging to the weaker and downtrodden Sections of Society by Providing Avenues for Improvement of their Economic Condition.

Non- Banking Activities involved participation in community activities which
Contributed to the Communal Good, :
Blood Donation Camps,
Health Camps,
Participation in Local Festivals,
Adult Literacy,
Tree Planting

As the scope of Activities increased, the Bank classified these activities as Community Service Banking

Organisational Structure for the Governance of CSR will be as follows :

Board of Directors
Board CSR Committee (CSRC)
CSR Sub-Committee
