The mission of the Department of Assam Gauhati University is to provide comprehensive idea and knowledge of the Assamese language, literature and composite culture of Assam from a holistic point of view.

It seeks to carry out it in the context of language, literature and culture of the North East India in general and Assam in particular. One gets the opportunity to get acquainted with the origin and historical development of the Assamese language and literature.
