Can you tell me about the Eligibility requirement for Admissions to various courses offered Department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics of IISc Bangalore?

The Department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics was established in 1996 and comes under the Division of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering.

It pursues a wide area of interdisciplinary research activities in the broad domain of applied physics, and provides post-graduate degrees (Masters in Technology, Masters in Science and Doctorate) in this area.

Eligibility for Admissions to Ph.D./M. Sc. (Engg.)


M.E./M. Tech./M. Sc. (Engg.) degree holders
Considered Ph.D. programme, it is not mandatory to clear any entrance exams like NET (CSIR-UGC), GATE, IISc test, etc. One may ask to attend an interview for final selection.
However, selection of short listed candidates for interview is purely decided by selection committee.


M. Sc. (non-Engg.) degree holders
Any one of the national tests, such as Joint CSIR-UGC-NET for JRF (candidates who cleared NET for lectureship (LS) only are not eligible to apply)/GATE (with valid score card in the validation period)/IISc Entrance Test are considered for admissions to Ph.D. programme or M. Sc. (Engg.) programme based on the performance in the interview by the interview board.


B.E./B.Tech. degree holders
GATE (with valid score card in the validation period)/IISc Entrance Test is considered for admissions to Ph.D. programme or M.Sc. (Engg.) programme based on the performance in the interview.


Eligibility for Admissions to M. Tech

B.E./B. Tech. (OR) M.Sc. (non-Engg.) degree holders
One should qualify GATE (with valid score card in the validation period).
Final selection list may be prepared by selection committee based on GATE score and other criteria as per IISc/IAP selection procedure.
