The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are institutions of national importance established through an Act of Parliament for fostering excellence in education.

There are 23 IITs at present located at Bhilai, Chennai, Delhi, Dhanbad, Dharwad, Goa, Guwahati, Jammu, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mumbai, Roorkee, Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Mandi, Palakkad, Patna, Ropar, Tirupati and Varanasi.

Indian Institutes of Technology Delhi (IITD) was established in 1961, with a vision to contribute to India and the world through excellence in scientific and technical education and research, to serve as a valuable resource for industry and society. It comes under Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development.
