What is Hyphema? Tell me the symptoms and its managements.

Hyphema can occur after trauma, intraocular surgery or spontaneously after leukemia, hemophilia and also in association with use of substances that change platelet or thrombin function.

Symptoms:
You can have blurry vision, pain, photophobia, tearing following blunt, concussive injury to eyes orbit.
Hyphema is described on the basis of amount of anterior chamber they occupy.

Management:

Bleeding in the eye can cause systematic blood disorder such as sickle cell anemia, hemophilia and Von Willbrands Disease.

Ocular examination is done for evaluating the adnexa, cornea, sclera, anterior chamber, lens, vitreous and retina and if fundus is obstructed by Hyphema then B Scan ultra sound of the globe is referring.

The patient is advised to take rest on the bed with the heads elevated at an angle of 30 degree. Use eye Shield for protection.

To prevent re bleeding use acetaminophen. Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen.
