The first Medical School in the southern state of Kerala was founded in 1951.
This college is affiliated to University of Kerala.

The Thirunal Hospital, offering health care for women and children was added in 1952 .

This institute has over 2500 beds for inpatient care and it is also offering courses of graduate and post graduate and post doctoral levels in medicine, public health, nursing and pharmaceutical sciences.
