As per your request here I am sharing the Syllabus for ICRI – M.Sc Clinical Research Entrance Exam

Syllabus for Entrance test for Admission to M Sc Clinical Research Course

UNIT I

General science: Structure and properties of water. Ion product of water. Buffers,
pH, pK and pI. Basic concepts on Molarity, Molality and Normality. Mean, Mode,
Median, Standard deviation, Standard error and probability. Basics of computer
sciences and its applications to biology.

UNIT II : Pharmaceutical Analysis - II
Application in drug analysis and quality control of the following analytical techniques Non-aqueous titrations, Complexometric titrations, Chromatography: The following techniques will be discussed with relevant examples of Pharmacopoeial products, TLC, HPLC, GLC, HPTLC, Paper Chromatography and Column Chromatography, Potentiometry.

UNIT III
Bio-molecules: Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins, Vitamins and nucleic acids-Types,
structure and function. Cell biology: Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell-structure and
organelle functions. Functions of suborganells of cell i.e., Nucleus, Endoplasmic
reticulum, Golgi apparatus, Peroxisomes and mitochondria. Structure of Cell
membrane types and regulation of transport.

UNIT IV
Metabolism: Carbohydrate, Lipids, amino acids and nucleotides turn over and its
regulation, Metabolic disorders. Glycolysis, TCA cycle, Urea cycle, Gluconeogenesis, Glyoxalate cycle and pentose phosphate pathway. Biological oxidations: Oxidation- reduction potentials, electron acceptors and donors in plants and animals. ATP synthesis-oxidative and photo-phosphorylation. Molecular Biology: Prokaryotic and eukaryotic Replication, Transcription Translation, mechanism and their regulation. DNA Repair systems, Recombination.

UNIT V : Anatomy, Physiology
1. Scope of anatomy and physiology and basic terminology used these subjects.
2. Structure of cell, its components and their functions.
3. Elementary Tissues of the Human Body: Epithelial, connective, muscular and nervous tissues, their sub-types and their characteristics.
4. Skeletal Muscles : Gross anatomy; physiology of muscle contraction, physiological properties of skeletal muscles and their disorders.
5. Haemopoietic System : Composition and functions of blood and its elements, their
disorders, blood groups and their significance, mechanism of coagulation, disorders of platelets and coagulation.
6. Cardiovascular System: Basic anatomy of the heart, Physiology of heart, blood vessels and circulation. Basic understanding of Cardiac cycle, heart sounds and understanding of Cardiac cycle, heart sounds and electrocardiogram. Blood pressure and its regulation. Brief outline of cardiovascular disorder like hypertension, hypotension, arteriosclerosis, angina, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias.

UNIT VI: Immunology:
Innate and adaptive immunity, Antigen and super antigens. Structure and functions of
immunoglobulin. T-cells and B-cells. Bio-Techniques: Principles, types and
applications of Chromatography, Centrifugation, Electrophoresis, Spectrophotometry
and Blotting techniques.
Genetics: Mendelian laws of inheritance and their application, linkage and crossing
over, gene mapping, theories of mutation and evolution, Genetic disorders. Animal &
Plant physiology: Physiology and development of circulatory, nervous system.
Endocrine and exocrine system: hormone diversity and action. Transport across plant
cell, Transpiration, Photosystems, Flowering,
plant hormones. Plant tissue culture and production of transgenic plants.

UNIT VII
Microbiology: Structure and organization of microbial cells, Microbial growth,
Transformation, Transduction, Conjugation. Antimicrobial agents. Drug
resistance. Enzymology: History, general characteristics, nomenclature and
classifications of enzymes, enzyme activity and factors affecting enzyme activity,
Competitive and uncompetitive inhibition, allosteric enzymes.

UNIT VIII : Pharmaceutical Analysis - I
Significance of quantitative analysis in quality control, Different techniques of analysis, Preliminaries and definitions, Significant figures, Rules for retaining significant digits, Types of errors, Mean deviation, Standard deviation, Statistical treatment of small data sets, Selection of sample, Precision and accuracy. Fundamentals of volumetric analysis, methods of expressing concentration, primary and secondary standards. Acid Base Titrations : Acid base concepts, Role of solvent, Relative strengths of acids and bases, Ionization, Law of mass action, Commonion effect, Ionic product of water, pH, Hydrolysis of salts, Henderson-Hessel bach equation, Buffer solutions, Neutralization curves, Acid-base indicators,•' Theory of indicators, Choice of indicators, mixed indicators, Polyprotic system, Polyamine and amino acid systems, Amino acid titration, applications in assay of Hl04,NaOH, CaC03 etc. .

UNIT IX : Pharmaceutical Analysis - II
Oxidation Reduction Titrations : Concepts of oxidation and reduction, Redox
reactions, Strengths and equivalent weights of oxidizing and reducing agents, Theory
of redox titrations, Redox indicators, Cell representations, Measurement of electrode
potential, Oxidation-reduction curves, Iodimetry and Iodometry, Titrations involving
ceric sulphate, potassium iodate, potassium bromate, potassium permanganate;
titanous chloride and Sodium 2, 6-dichlorophenol indophenol. Precipitation Titrations:
Precipitation reactions, Solubility products, Effect of acids, temperature and solvent
upon the solubility of a precipitate. Argentometric titrations and titrations involving
ammonium or potassium thiocyanate, mercuric nitrate, and barium sulphate,
Indicators, Gaylussac method; Mohrs method, Volhard's method and Fajan's method.

UNIT XI: Pharmaceutical Analysis - III
Gravimetric Analysis: Precipitation techniques, Solubility products; The colloidal state, Supersaturation co-precipitation, Postprecipitation, Digestional washing of the
precipitate, Filtration, Filter papers and crocibles, Ignition, Thermogravimetric curves, Specific examples like barium sulphate, aluminium as aluminium oxide, calcium as calcium oxalate and magnesium as magnesium pyrophosphate, Organic precipitants.

UNIT X. Pharmaceutical Microbiology
Introduction to the scope of microbiology, Microbial genetics and variation, Control of microbes by physical and chemical methods, Disinfection, factors influencing
disinfectants, dynamics of disinfection, disinfectants and antiseptics and their
evaluation, Sterilization, different methods, validation of sterilization methods &
equipments, Sterility testing of all pharmaceutical products, Immunity, primary and
secondary, defensive mechanisms of body, microbial resistance, interferon, Microbial assays of antibiotics, vitamins & amino acids.
Biochemsitry-Glycols are. TCA cycle, pentose phosphate pathway, Gluconeogenesis,
Glycogen, Synthesis and breakdown, B-oxidation of fatty acids, metabolism of fatty
acid, triacylglycerol and cholesterol, Electron transport chain and oxidative
phosphorylation, Transamination and deamination reactions, urea cycle, metabolism
of phenylalanine, tyrosine, tryptophan.
