Institute of Medical Sciences University of Toronto
The University Of Toronto Faculty Of Medical Sciences is the medical school of the University of Toronto. The faculty is grounded in the Discovery District of Downtown Toronto along with most of its teaching hospitals and research institutes. Established in 1843, it is one of Canada’s oldest institutions of medical studies, and is recognized for the finding of insulin and stem cells. The Faculty of Medicine controls a health network that contains 10 teaching hospitals with meaningful stress on tertiary care, including medical treatment, research and advisory services to patients and clients from Canada and overseas.
The Institute of Medical Science (IMS) provides thesis-based graduate degrees in Medical Science leading to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. These are thesis-based doctoral stream degrees with a strong stress on scholarly research. Its Doctoral Stream programs offer a broad range of multidisciplinary experiment fields in clinical and basic medical science and linked fields. Today, it is the biggest graduate unit the Faculty of Medicine, with over five hundred graduate faculty members and above five hundred graduate students.
