IIJNM is established in 2001 by the BS&G basis, a non-profit Trust committed to encouraging democratic values and institutions in India. The BS&G basis is a relationship between the Adi Chunchanagiri Maha Samsthana Trust and The George basis. The former also runs several other educational introductions in medicine and engineering, while the latter is employed in humanitarian projects and environmental issues. IIJNM offers a curriculum originated in association with Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, New York.
