OMAT Mission
The Overseas Medical Assistance Team had a humble but focused commencing in 1991. OMAT is presently enrolling health providers for its 2010 humanitarian missions to Haiti and Guyana. OMAT offers in-service training for nursing staff and students in fields identified by the host hospital. OMAT conducts clinics in outside fields where there is little or no access to medical services. OMAT organizes and conducts free community health fairs to offer basic screenings, show health videos, distribute literature, and offer useful, health-related incentives to local residents. The OMAT will continue to work with Hospital Adventist to establish a lab which will make additional prosthetic devices. OMAT’s success in fulfilling that mission was due to a core group of dedicated volunteers. The OMAT offers assist staff in running general medical clinics, performing specified surgical procedures, conducting diagnostic processes, and performing other specialty procedures as needed.
