U P Rajashri Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) was established on November 2, 1998 with an objective to provide quality education through distance mode to the large section of population of the state of Uttar Pradesh. The first session of U P Rajashri Tandon Open University commenced from July 1999. The U P Rajashri Tandon Open University plans to provide access to higher education for large segments of population and in particular, the disadvantaged groups such as those living in remote and rural areas including working people.
