During the early sixties, there was a large requirement of Managers at the top and middle level to manage the industry, Sugar Mills, Spinning Mills, Textile Mills and other business houses. Chh. Shahu Central Institute of Business Education & Research started imparting management education since 1976 and is a pioneer in the Shivaji University area not only in creating awareness in Management and IT education but also in starting different post-graduate courses at Kolhapur since 1976. The trustees of the CSCIBER Trust realized that a number of students were aspiring to take education in professional courses but as the facilities were not available the students from Sangli and rural area were deprived from getting professional education.

Every candidate for being eligible for admission to the three year degree course leading to the Bachelor of Social Work (B. S. W.) must have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (standard XII) conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, or an equivalent examination of any other Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, recognized by the Shivaji University.
