The Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI) is a prime service in Asia in the area of domestic fisheries research, education and training. In 1959, this research administration accomplished position of an Institute and transferred to Barrackpore from Kolkata. The main aims of the institute were to impart researches for a proper estimate of inland fisheries resources of the nation and to develop suitable techniques for their conservation and optimum usage. The CIFRI also attempt several extension activities regarding organization of a number of training curriculum with a view to spreading the experience how developed at the institute to the user groups. Other major aims of this institute consider fish see transportation, examining fish seed from rivers, breeding and nursery management of carps and diverse other aspects related to fishery resources.
