IP is today looked at as an important and effective policy instrument applicable to a huge range of socioeconomic, technological and political concerns. There is a need for developing skills in filing, reading and exploiting patents which will be essential in the years to come. The Indian Law Institute (ILI) was established in 1956 .The aims of the Institute as laid down in its Memorandum of Association are to civilize the science of law. The development of skills and competency to manage IPR and leverage its influence requires increasing focus. Indian Law institute offered one year Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights [IPR]. IPRs must be made a compulsory subject in college law courses and in the Universities.
