The Berhampur University came into existence on 2nd January 1967 being inaugurated by Dr. A.N. Khosla, the then Governor of Orissa and the first Chancellor of the University.

The Harihara Mardaraj Distance Education Centre is admit candidates to the First Year of the Three Year Degree Courses under Berhampur University to be taught through the Distance Education Mode in accordance with the Syllabus and Regulations of Berhampur University as prescribed from time to time
