The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research has a Clinical psychology department. The Department of Psychiatry was functioning in JIPMER in 1961.

The JIPMER is one of the nodal centers for Drug Deaddiction and Treatment and has been rendering yeoman service in this regard to the clients.

The Department is actively involved in multidisciplinary clinical care and training, as well as research both at the intra-departmental level and in liaison with other disciplines.

The services of clinical psychologist, psychiatric social worker and occupational therapist are utilized to provide comprehensive and multimodal care enhancing treatment outcomes and patient satisfaction.
