Clinical Cytogenetics is a career for those who are interested in Genetics, those who want to help diagnose genetic disease. If you have these interests then you must become a Cytogeneticist. Cytogenetics involves a variety of technical and interpretive skills. Cytogenetics is a laboratory based science which involves processing and analyzing the chromosomes of different types of samples (samples of human blood, tissue, bone marrow or other bodily fluids) for the purpose of detecting & interpreting chromosome abnormalities.

Specific degree subjects required are:
• Biochemistry
• Biological sciences
• Biomedical science
• Genetics
• Medicine
• Physiology

2 main grades of staff are employed with Clincal Cytogenetics laboratories
1. Genetic Technologists
2. Clinical Scientists
