The full form of NIBM is National Institute of Bank Management. It was established in 1969 by the Reserve Bank of India, in consultation with the Government of India.

It is an autonomous apex institution for research, training, education and consultancy in bank management. It is engaged in Research (policy and operations), Training & Education of senior executives of banks, and provides Consulting support to the banking and financial sector.

Roles of the Institute
• To be the main research and academic support of the banking industry for upgrading the knowledge and skills significant for its top management.
• To be the depot of data and information of all new and budding issues in the banking sector.
• To be the channel in helping banks to secure their financial position and make them world-class.
• To be a change agent in the overall functioning of the banking system and help the escort in of professionalism in the banking and financial system of India.
