Re: Nbcc mhf The Mental Health Facilitator (MHF) curricula offered by NBCC International encompass 5 signs of emotional suffering promoted by the changedirection.org campaign. Recognizing signs of personality change, agitation, withdrawal, poor self-care, and hopelessness is infused into the curricula. Education and Training The Mental Health Facilitator (MHF) program is intended to improve access to mental health care in a given community by educating and training community members from varied backgrounds. The intent is not to create a new mental health profession, but rather to provide individuals with the gears and skills necessary to: Identify mental health needs. Support those in need of mental health care. Work with existing care resources. Make referrals to mental health professionals as needed. A Collaborative Program The MHF program is introduced when requested by local mental health experts or other community members. To ensure cultural suitability, the training program can be contextualized and interpreted to fit cultural norms. Through training and skills practice exercises, the MHF curriculum prepares community-based helpers to: Address special topics in mental stress, distress and disorder. Connect local potential, needs and resources. Encourage choice with empathy, integrity and respect for diversity. Identify the five signs of mental illness.
