Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA) was a programme by which candidates are selected by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) India, to train in the undergraduate program in mechanical engineering at the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Jamalpur.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification:
For admission to the examination a candidate must have passed in the first or second division, 12th standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination.

Age Limit:
A candidate must have attained the age of 17 years


Selection Procedure of the SCRA Exam

SCRA entrance test is a two-stage exam, in which a written test and a personality test are included. Candidates, who qualify the written test successfully, get called for personality test, which is conducted by the UPSC.

The written test carries marks of 600 marks, while the interview carries 200 marks. The written test consists of three objective papers including General Ability test, Physical Sciences and Mathematics

The interviews are held by the UPSC soon after results of the written test is declared. The personality test or interview carries 200 marks and the marks obtained in the interview are added to the marks obtained by the candidates in the written test, to prepare the final merit list.
