SAL1302 SOCIAL WELFARE AND SOCIAL LEGISLATIONS IN INDIA

UNIT 1 – CONCEPTS AND APPROACHES 12Hrs.
History of Social Welfare in Western & Indian Society: From charity to rights- Concepts and Approaches: Social
Welfare, Human Rights, Social Justice, Social Development, Social Action, Empowerment.
UNIT 2 – STATE, CONSTITUTION AND RIGHTS 16Hrs.
Nature of Welfare State in India- Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles of State Policy and Fundamental Duties-
Changes in the Welfare State, post liberalization
UNIT 3 – SOCIAL PROBLEMS RELATING TO WOMEN 16Hrs.
Issues of women - health, education, employment and violence against women- Constitutional Provisions and Laws-
CEDAW, National and State Commissions for Women.
UNIT 4 – SOCIAL PROBLEMS RELATING TO CHILDREN 16Hrs.
Issues of children in India: Health, education, child labour, child trafficking, child abuse- Constitutional safeguards-
Integrated Child Development Scheme, Juvenile Justice System- U.N. Convention on Rights of Child & National Commission
for Protection of Child Rights.
UNIT 5 – ROLE OF CIVIL SOCIETY IN SOCIAL WELFARE 15Hrs.
Meaning and importance of civil society in working with the marginalized groups- Role of CSO (civil society organizations),
NGOs, social action groups, media, social movements.
Max. 75 Hours

COURSE OUTCOMES:
On completion of the course the student will be able to
CO1: Identify major issues of social diversity within our contemporary society.
CO2: Apply perspectives and research to current issues and concerns of social diversity.
CO3: Determine the historical and contemporary levels of social conflict and/or cooperation between various social identity
groups.
CO4: Develop problem-solving strategies as they pertain to race, ethnicity, gender, and social class.
CO5: Identify theories and research applicable to women, Children, Aged and welfare provisions.
CO6: This Course will equip the students with the required Professional Skills
