The University of Mumbai, informally known as Mumbai University (MU), is one of the earliest state universities in India and the oldest in Maharashtra.

Ranking

Internationally, the University of Mumbai ranked 801-1000 by the QS World University Rankings of 2018, 181 in Asia and 82 among BRICS nations.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework has ranked it in the 151-200 band overall in India and in the 101-150 band among universities

Recognition

Mumbai University is recognized by University Grants Commission and is abide to the UGC ACT 1956

The UGC was formally established in November 1956 as a statutory body of the Government of India through an Act of Parliament for the coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of university education in India.

The UGCs mandate includes :-

Determining and maintaining standards of teaching, examination and research in universities.
Framing regulations on minimum standards of education.
