The ENVIS Center on Forestry was built up by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Govt. of India amid 1996-97 at the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, the most established and biggest foundation under Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education.

The Center is situated at the National Forest Library and Information Center, which is wealthiest in report accumulation on ranger service and partnered sciences in South and South-east Asia, having more than 1.65 lakh books and different distributions, more than 7,000 record documents containing research articles, and so forth on various backwoods species, subjects, and all Indian and outside diaries on ranger service and associated sciences.
