The Centre for Polymer Science and Engineering is a constituent of the Centre for Materials Science & Technology established in 1975 under the interdisciplinary program of the Institute for developing and undertaking research on materials for specific end uses.

Academic Programs

M. Tech.

An interdisciplinary M.Tech program in Polymer Science and Technology is currently being offered by CPSE.

Students from diverse backgrounds including B.Tech/B.E. in Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Petroleum Engineering, Textile, Polymer Technology, M.Sc. Chemistry and Physics are enrolled in the program.

PhD

The Centre offers both full time and part-time PhD programs and students are admitted twice a year.

Students with Masters or Bachelors degree in relevant disciplines with either CSIR/UGC/GATE qualifications can apply.

Core research areas include -

Polymer Synthesis, Polymer Rheology and processing, polymer blends, alloys and micro/Nanocomposites, microcellular polymers, polymer electronics, smart Hydrogels, functional Nano materials, surface Functionalization, biodegradable polymers, polymer tribology, rubber compounding and technology, anti-fouling polymer, fracture and fatigue of composites, catalysis, EMI shielding materials, self-healing composites etc.
