Re: IIT JEE Hydrocarbons
IIT JEE is An Engineering Entrance Exam Conducted by the CBSE for Admission into the Engineering institutes of India The Study material of the Hydrocarbons topic of the Chemistry of the IIT JEE Exa is given below Alkanes, also known as paraffins, are saturated hydrocarbons. These are chemical compounds that consist only of the elements carbon (C) and hydrogen (H) (i.e.,hydrocarbons), wherein these atoms are linked together exclusively by single bonds (i.e., they are saturated compounds) without any cyclic structure (i.e. loops). Alkanes belong to a homologous series of organic compounds in which the members differ by a constant relative atomic mass of 14 .Each carbon atom must have 4 bonds (either C-H or C-C bonds), and each hydrogen atom must be joined to a carbon atom (H-C bonds). A series of linked carbon atoms is known as the carbon skeleto Saturated hydrocarbons in more detail under following topics: General Methods of Preparation of Alkanes Properties of Alkane Cycloalkanes Petroleum Sample Question : 1.Olafins means ethene unsaturated oil forming having tripple bond 2.Which of the following has dipole moment? trans-2-butene 1-propene cis-2-butene Both A and B 3.In which of the following C-H bond will be smallest? Ethylene Acetylene Methane Ethane 4.Alkynes when reduced with sodium in liquid ammonia gives trans alkenes 1-alkene only methane a mixture of cis and trans alkenes 5.12-butyne when reduced with palladised charcoal with poisons like quinoline gives 1-butene butane trans-2 butene cis 2-butene |
