UNIT 1 ART 6 HRS.
Definition of Art, Theory of origin and evolution, Different Art Forms, Elements of Art-Line, Form, Colour, Composition,
Texture, Material, Medium, Content and Style.

UNIT 2 AESTHETICS 10 Hrs.
Historical development of Art, Traditional Theories-Imitation, Representation and Expression Aesthetics;
Contemporary Theories- Marxist, Institutional, Existential and Phenomenal, Romantic Individualism and Art Movements-
Realism, Impressionism, Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Constructivism, Abstract Art-Theory of Abstraction by Kandinsky
and Mondrian, Surrealism.

UNIT 3 ART CRITICISM 6 Hrs.
Different art critiques, Art, Imagination and beauty, study of the powerful, recurrent ideas concerning art, critical method
and the nature of representation.

UNIT 4 INDIAN ART AND AESTHETICS 8 Hrs.
Nature of Indian Art and Aesthetics, The Emergence of New Trends in Indian art: Raja Ravi Varma and Amrita Sher-
Gil, Kolkata School: Havell and Abanindranath, The Revivalist Trend in India and the Role of Bengal School, Art Circles of 20th
Century: Progressive Artists Group- Mumbai and Kolkata, Shilpi Chakra- Delhi, Cholamandala- Chennaiform.
Max. 30 Hours

COURSE OUTCOMES
On completion of the course the student will be able to
CO1: Produce creative works that demonstrate innovation in concepts, formal language and/or materials
CO2: Describe, analyze and interpret created artwork
CO3: Recognize elements of design in works of art
CO4: Analyze, interpret and evaluate the form and content of works of art
CO5: Handle materials effectively
CO6: Create original objects of art in a specific medium

PART B: 2 questions from each unit with an internal choice, each carrying 15 marks. : 04 x 15 = 60 Marks
