Re: All India Common Entrance Examination For Design

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) conducts Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) for admission to Master of Design (M.Des.) programmes at IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Kanpur, and PhD programmes in Design at some Institutes.


Eligibility Criteria


i) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Architecture/Design/Interior Design or equivalent (4 years programme after 10+2).

(ii) Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent of 4 years programme after 10+2).

(iii) B.F.A. (4 year professional programme after 10+2).

(iv) G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year post qualification professional experience.

(v) Master’s degree in Arts/ Science/ Computer Applications (2 year programme after 10+2+3).

Examination Pattern :

The examination will consist of two parts, Part A and Part B. Candidates have to attempt questions from both the parts. Part A contains objective type questions (MCQ, MSQ and NAT) and Part B consists of design and hand drawing type questions.

Part A will be conducted from 10:00 to 11:00 Hrs followed by Part B from 11:00 to 13:00 Hrs.


Syllabus of Both the Parts of CEED Exam

Part - A Covers the following categories

1. Visual Communication - this includes Logo's, signage, packaging, fonts etc.
2. Animation Design - includes Movement observation, comic strips, visuals etc.
3. Product Design - that covers Latest and newest products and trends, current products etc.
4. Automobile Design - that relates to Aesthetics, manufacturers and plants etc.
5. Digital (applied to almost all the fields) - which relates to Photography, color coding, displays, printing etc.
6. Observation and visualization (Basic designer skill) - something like Mirroring, textures, evolution (past to present), isometrics and geometry, tessellations, shadows and more.
7. Architecture - that covers Sculpture, monuments, materials etc.
8. General awareness - which includes Engineering ability, materials, culture of the country, famous personalities and their works, instruments, animals etc.

Part - B Comprises the following categories<

1. Basic and visual sketching - that might include objective, perceptive and imaginative types
2. Observation, problem Identification and problem solving
3. Design think-ability - that relates mostly to the design streams like product/Industrial, Interaction Design and User Interface Design
4. Visual communication design in the form of posters, logo
5. Animation design in the form of comic strips, character framing etc
