No you don’t feel any difficulty because of your Mechanical engineering course to crack civil service examination. You can choose optional subject according to your suitability and interest.

Here I am giving you information about optional subjects and required eligibility for civil service examination

Required eligibility :
You can apply for IAS examination after passing graduation level degree in any discipline from a well recognized university

Age limit :
21-30 years as on 1st August of the year of Examination.
