Number Of Attempts For UPSC

Hello sir, I’m preparing for UPSC exam. I want to know that how many attempts are there for UPSC exam. Please provide me number of attempts for UPSC?

The Union Public Service Commission is Conducts various exams for recruitment across the year for Defence National Defence Academy and Naval Academy - NDA/NA, Combined Defence Services (CDS), Civil Services IAS, IPS, IFS , Medical - Engineering Services, Geologist Exam, SCRA and other Government establishments.

A maximum of 6 attempts is official to every candidate and 9 to those belonging to Other Backward Classes. There is no restriction on the number of attempts in the case of SC/ST candidates.

Number of attempts for IAS exam:
General Category : 6 attempts till 32 years of age.
OBC : 9 attempts till 35 years of age.
SC/ST : unlimited attempts till 37 years of age.

For Physically Handicapped /disabled candidates belonging to General category will get the benefit of 9 attempts till the age prescribed by UPSC – 42 years

Physically disabled candidates (Blind, Deaf-Mute, Orthopedic)
Upper Age Limit : 32 years with relaxation of 10 years = 42 years

No. of Attempts Allowed : For the General and OBC Candidates= 09 attempts
No. of Attempts Allowed : For SC/ST Candidates = Unlimited till age limit

Jammu & Kashmir Domicile
Upper Age Limit :General = 37 years, OBC = 40 Years, SC/ST = 42 Years, PH = 50 years
No. of Attempts Allowed : Up to the Upper Age limit


Disabled servicemen disabled from duty
Upper Age Limit :General= 37 years OBC = 38 Years SC/ST = 40 Years
No. of Attempts Allowed : Up to the Upper Age limit
