The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences

TISS has taken up the challenge to demonstrate models on skilling people with varying educational qualifications (including illiterates whose skills have been rendered redundant in the new economic context).

National University Students’ Skill Development Programme (NUSSD) was initiated as a pilot project in 2013 and is currently being tested in 11Universities across 9 states
