The mainstream of Penn State’s applications comes from traditional, first-year students. The following types of students are considered first-year applicants (or freshman applicants, as some refer to them): Current high school student in his or her senior year Student who has earned a high school diploma or a GED and has no post-secondary coursework Student who has attempted 17 or fewer semester hours of college coursework at a regionally accredited college/university before attending Penn State Current high school student who may have enrolled in another institution(s) before graduating from high school (dual enrollment) Student who may have attended Penn State on a non degree basis Steps to Apply Step 1: Create a MyPennState Profile at the official website of University. Step 2: Access the Application and Review Important Dates Step 3: Start Your Penn State Application in MyPennState Step 4: Submit Your Application Step 5: Submit Required Application Materials Step 6: Check Your Application Status in MyPennState Step 7: Receive Your Admission Decision Requirements of the Academic College: The following charts outline the minimum course requirements for Penn State's four-year majors by academic college. The charts outline units of study, which in most high school curricula is equal to one year of work. Degree Requirements for the Following Colleges:Subject Minimum Units Required for: College of Agricultural Sciences College of Arts and Architecture College of Communications College of Education College of Health and Human Development College of the Liberal Arts College of Nursing Undecided, Division of Undergraduate Studies English 4 units, including 1 unit each in composition and literature Social Studies/Art/Humanities 3 units in any combination of social studies, arts, or humanities Science 3 units Math 3 units, in algebra and geometry World Language 2 units* Additional Math Requirement for Specific Academic Colleges Some academic colleges and their majors require the completion of additional math in high school in order to be eligible for admission to the program.
