The Commission also provides for a relaxation in the age and number of attempts for Physically Disabled and SC/ST/OBC candidates’ aspiring to appear for the IAS Examination.


Age Relaxation

The upper age limit of 32 years has been relaxed by a maximum of five years, for candidates’ belonging to the Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes and candidates’ belonging to Other Backward Classes have been given a relaxation of up to three years.

Physically Handicapped candidates of the General cadre are given an upper age relaxation of 10 years, while OBC candidates’ with Physical disabilities are permitted a relaxation of up to 13 years

.SC/ST candidates with Physical Disabilities are given an upper age relaxation of a maximum of 15 years.

Number of Attempts

The Commission also allows for a total of 9 attempts at the Indian Administrative Service for candidates’ from the OBC categories, while the number of attempts for SC/ST candidates is unlimited.
