I have completed my studies and someone suggested me to give Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) entrance exam. Can you please provide details about this organization along with role of UPSC also provide important dates to apply for this UPSC Examination?

The Union Public Service Commission of India was virtually established by the British Government as early as in 1974 during the British rule.

UPSC Role and Functions:

The UPSC performs many functions as follows:

i. Conducts exams for the All-India Services Central Services and Public Services of the centrally and Ministered Territories.

ii. Assists the States in framing and operating schemes of joint recruitment for any services requiring special qualifications.

iii. Serves the interests of the State on the request of the State Governor and with the approval of the President of India.

iv. Consulted on matters, some of which may be identifies as:

a. Claim for reimbursement of legal express incurred by a civil servant in defending proceeding instituted against him.

b. Matters of temporary appointments for period exceeding one year and on regularization of appointments.

c. Matters related to personnel management etc.
