About the Sophisticated Instruments Facility of the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore

The Sophisticated Instruments Facility (SIF) was established in 1977 by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, It is A Joint Venture Facility of the Indian Institute of Science, Raman Research Institute, National Aeronautical Laboratory, all in Bangalore and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Bombay

Objective :

To provide NMR facilities to scientists to carry out measurements for the purpose of research.

To organise short-term courses/workshops on the use and application of various instruments and techniques for research students, teachers and personnel from other laboratories and industries.

To acquire and develop capability for preventive maintenance and repairs of Sophisticated instruments and also help other laboratories in this direction if and when possible.

To train technicians in maintenance and operation of Sophisticated Instruments.
