OPT is temporary employment for practical training directly related to the student’s
major area of study.


Eligibility Criteria

Any F-1 student who has been continuously enrolled in full-time status for at least one
regular full academic year may apply. No practical training is available for students in
the IEP program


Deadline :

It is recommended to apply 90 days before your program completion date if
eligible. It can take USCIS 2-3 months or longer to process applications.

Applications must be received by the end of your 60 day grace period (starts
upon completion of your program). You should send your application to
USCIS no later than 2 weeks before the end of the grace period.


Required Documents

TWO passport photos

•A copy of your most recent I-20 form
Copies of any I-20 forms with Employment Authorizationlisted (
A copy of your passport (identity pages and pages with most recent entry
stamp)
•A copy of your current F-1 visa (and any previous visas, i.e.: F-2, J-1)
A copy of the FRONTand the BACKof your most recent I-94 card or
print out of Arrival/Departure Record, if applicable
To print out the Arrival/Departure Recordgo to cbp.gov/I94
Any previous EAD card, if applicable (front and back)
