Jaypee University of Information Technology, Solan was set up by Act No. 14 of 2002 vide Extraordinary Gazette notification of Government of Himachal Pradesh dated May 23, 2002.

It is approved by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, vide letter no. F.9-10/2002(CPP-I) dated 09 Dec. 2002.

It is the state university of Himachal Pradesh and is approved under Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act 1956 and is a Member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
