Can you tell me about the nature of job for Statistical Investigator (Gr II) post whcose exam is conducted through SSC CGL Exam?

One selected for Statistical Investigator (Gr II) through SSC CGL exam is designated as Junior Statistical Officers (JSO) in Group ‘B’ (Central Civil Service, Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial).

One will be part of the Subordinate Statistical Service (SSS) Cadre under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

The post is an all India level post and one can be posted anywhere in India. Of the total number of candidates selected for JSO profile, about 80% of postings are done through the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO); rest are appointed to different Ministries/ Departments/ Organization within the Union Government.

Nature of Job

At NSSO: One posted at NSSO performs two main functions i.e., data collection and data processing.
• Data Collection:

It is primarily an intensive field job and handled by the FOD (Field Operations Division) of the NSSO and the officers are expected to conduct surveys and data collection drives for different governmental schemes, programmes, socio-economic factors, urban surveys and price indexes.

• Data Processing:
It is a desk job and one prepares extensive data reports for the different governmental Ministries/ Departments/Organisation.
The data compiled provides general estimates and parameters for the formulation of govt policies, schemes and programmes of the Government of India.

In Ministries:

One is posted in different governmental ministries, departments and organizations have clerical job profile. One is in - charge of drafting documents, preparing survey report requirements, data entry, tabulation, editing and compiling of existing data into reports and other similar responsibilities.
