SEIA1502 ANALYTICAL INSTRUMENTATION

UNIT 1 SPECTRO PHOTOMETERS 9 Hrs.
Spectral methods of analysis – Beer’s law UV – visible spectrophotometers – single beam and double beam instruments –
source and detectors – IR spectrophotometers – sources and detectors – FTIR spectrometers –Atomic absorption
spectrophotometer – flame emission spectrophotometers – sources of flame photometry –applications - ESR, EPR
spectroscopy - TOF spectrometer -Introduction to x-ray spectroscopy.

UNIT 2 PRINCIPLE of NUCLEAR MAGNETIC RESONANCE 9 Hrs.
NMR – basic principle – NMR spectrometers – applications – introduction to mass spectrophotometers –nuclear radiation
detectors – GM counter – proportional counter – solid state detectors.

UNIT 3 CHROMATOGRAPHY 9 Hrs.
Gas chromatography – liquid chromatography –– high-pressure liquid chromatography – principles, types and applications
detectors.

UNIT 4 pH CONDUCTIVITY & DISSOLVED COMPONENT ANALYSER 9 Hrs.
Conductivity meters – pH meters - dissolved oxygen hydrogen analyser –sodium analyser – silica analyser and Sampling
systems.

UNIT 5 GAS ANALYSER 9 Hrs.
Thermal conductivity - thermal analyser – types of Oxygen analyser – CO monitor – NOx analyser – H2S analyser – dust
and smoke measurement
Max. 45 Hrs.

COURSE OUTCOMES
On completion of the course, student will be able to
CO1 - Understand the working of different types of Analysers.
CO2 - Analyze the techniques of chromatography.
CO3 - Understand working of different Spectrophotometers.
CO4 - Explain NMR.
CO5 - Analyze the applications of Analyzers, Chromatography.
CO6 - Explain the operating principle of analyzers, chromatography, Spectrophotometers.
