As you want to know type of question that was asked last year during interview session for admission in Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore M.tech computer science, so here I am telling same for you:

1. Are you familiar with convergence of a sequence of random variables? If so, can you please write down the types of convergence you know of? (the panel typically asks the student to go to the blackboard and write down things mathematically, without much emphasis to heuristic arguments).

2. Can you give me examples for convergence in distribution? (in this regard, does anything come to your mind when I say Gaussian distribution? - hinting at Central limit theorem).

3. Consider a coin with bias p. However, you do not know the bias. How will you find out?

4. Do you know about vector spaces and basis? Can you formally define a basis?

5. When is a set of vectors said to be linearly independent? Given a set of vectors, how will you find out if they constitute a vector space?

6. Write down the basis vectors for the vector space of all polynomial functions of degree less than or equal to 'n'.
