The Southern Methodist University is established with students and staff those are representing some 50 countries, and almost 1,200 full-time international and exchange students.

The Southern Methodist University is truly a diverse university, providing its people with a broad intercultural experience and a holistic understanding of what it means to thrive in a global environment.

Its main approach is to Diversity & Inclusion provides its staff, students, and partners with the platform to succeed in this environment, even as it underscores the Southern Methodist University commitment to be a leading supporter and advocate in this area.

The Southern Methodist University goals for Diversity & Inclusion:
Enrich work and learning for all
Foster an open and inclusive culture
Promote collegiality on campus

Diversity:

Total Fall 2015 Identified Minority Enrollment – 3,030

Hispanic – 1,251
Asian – 715
Black/African American – 701
American Indian/Alaska Native – 38
Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander – 16
Two or more races – 309
Minority percentage of total enrollment – 26%
Minority percentage of undergraduates – 26.8%

In Socio-economic:
Three out of four undergraduate students receive scholarships and/or financial aid, including academic and need-based.

In National:
More than half of undergraduates come from outside Texas.
With students from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, the leading home states (after Texas) for first-year students are, in descending order, California, Florida, Illinois, and Connecticut.

International:
A record fall 2015 international enrollment of 1,652 students (14 percent of the student population) represents 92 foreign countries, with China, India and Saudi Arabia the largest groups.
