The Attorneys- at- Law course offered by the Sri Lanka Law College consists of 3 years of lectures for those who gain admission through the Entrance Examination.

Since the late 1980s admission has been from a very competitive entrance exam due to the high number of applicants. However, young Members of Parliament without higher educational qualifications receive direct admission without setting for the entrance exam.

Entrance Examination

The Brochure and the Application Form may be obtained from the College on payment of the requisite fee during the time specified in the Press advertisement announcing the acceptance of applications for the Entrance Examination.

The Sri Lanka Law College does not offer any courses to prepare students for the Entrance Examination.

(1) One needs to sit an Entrance Examination to be held in August/ September every year.

(2) The subjects for the Entrance Exam shall be: (a) Language Paper Sinhala Language or Tamil Language or English Language and (b) General Knowledge and General Intelligence.

(3) One may elect to answer the General Knowledge and General Intelligence paper in Sinhala, Tamil or English Language. If elects to answer the General Knowledge and General Intelligence paper in either the Sinhala Language or Tamil Language, shall sit for the English Language paper, if elects to answer the General Knowledge and General Intelligence paper in English shall sit for either the Sinhala Language or the Tamil Language paper.

Syllabus for the Language Paper

The Syllabus for the Language Paper shall comprise -
(a) An essay, main objective being to test power of thought, expression and arrangement.
(b) Precise writing and paraphrasing.
(c) Syntax, vocabulary, synonyms and antonyms, figurative and idiomatic usage.
