Introduction
The Ground water conditions play an important part in the stability of foundations. If the water table lies very close to the base of footings, the bearing capacity and settlement characteristics of the soil would be affected.

Ground water table
Ground water is sub-surface water, but not all sub-surface water is ground water. The upper surface of ground water is the water table. Below this surface, all the pore spaces and cracks in sediments and rocks are completely filled (saturated) with water.
