| shikha | Re: ISM Dhanbad To IIT News The proposal for conversion of ISM into an IIT had been strongly recommended in 1994 by a Government Committee ISM to IIT refers the movement started by the students of ISM Dhanbad aimed at convincing the Government of India, the need to convert ISM Dhanbad into an IIT. In September 2011, a resolution was passed by the Government of Jharkhand, recommending to the Government of India to convert ISM to an IIT On 25 May 2016, the Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Modi approved that a bill be introduced in Parliament for converting ISM Dhanbad into an IIT. The Bill has got the Presidential assent and a Gazzete notification has been made, thus officially converting ISM Dhanbad to Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad.
