The other two All India Services being the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service Being an AIS, the forest service officers are appointed by the President of India through an annual All India Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Job Profile The predecessor of IFoS is Imperial Forest Service which was constituted by the British Government during colonial era in 1867. Later the Constitution of India reorganized it into an All India Services and renamed it. Being mentioned in the Constitution, this service comes with amazing power, responsibility and reputation. Recently, the debate about climate change and the needs to protect forest, biodiversity, etc. have given it more responsibility. Officers are expected to protect the environment, regulate mines and forest activities in the protected areas and look after the needs of forest dwellers. Pay Scale : 1.
