SYLLABUS – SEMESTER 3RD (CBCS) – INTEGRATED M.Sc. PHYSICS
(CORE COURSE - PRACTICAL)

TITLE: THERMAL PHYSICS
COURSE CODE : 4PHYPC0302 CREDITS : 02
Total: 50 Marks
External: 25 Marks
Internal: 25 Marks

List of Experiments:
1.To determine Mechanical Equivalent of Heat, J, by Callender and Barne’s
constant flow method.
2.To determine the Coefficient of Thermal Conductivity of Cu by Searle’s Apparatus.
3.To determine the Coefficient of Thermal Conductivity of Cu by Angstrom’s Method.
4.To determine the Coefficient of Thermal Conductivity of a bad conductor by
Lee and Charlton’s disc method.
5. To determine the Coefficient of Thermal Conductivity of a metal by Forbe’s
method
6.To determine the Temperature Coefficient of Resistance by Platinum
Resistance Thermometer (PRT).
7.To study the variation of Thermo-Emf of a Thermocouple with Difference of
Temperature of its Two Junctions.
8. To calibrate a thermocouple to measure temperature in a specified Range using
Null Method, (2) Direct measurement using Op-Amp difference amplifier and
to determine Neutral Temperature.
9. To determine the specific heat of a liquid by law of cooling.
10. To determine the heating efficiency of electrical kettle by varying voltages.
11. To determine mechanical equivalent of heat J by Joule’s calorimeter.
More experiments may be added as per Lab title.
