University started its correspondence education in the year 1971 known as Directorate of Correspondence Course.In the year 1993 the Directorate of Distance Education was upgraded as Institute of Distance Education(IDE).

It provides various Traditional Degree courses as well as Technical and Professional courses through Distance mode

The Institute offers the following courses are:
B.A., B.Com., M.A., M.Com., M.Sc., Maths,
Two years Post-graduate Diploma in Financial Management (PGDFM) and Post-graduate Diploma in Operations Research for Management (PGDORM),
B.Sc.(I.T.), M.Sc.(I.T), B.Sc. (Comp. Sc.), M.Sc. (Comp.Sc.), M.C.A. and B.Sc. (Nautical Technology)

The admission dates are held in the first week of August to last week of September which application cost Rs.70/-
