TERI University was Set-up as the TERI School of Advanced Studies in 1998 and subsequently renamed the TERI University.
The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as a deemed to be University in 1999. It is situated at Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.

The University's first convocation was held on 16 October 2006. The University launched an academic exchange programme with Yale University with support from the V K Rasmussen Foundation in 2007 and launched another academic exchange programme with Freie University of Berlin, Germany, with support from DAAD (the German Academic Exchange Service) in 2008. In 2009, four scholarship Programmes were set up for students and in the 2010 the University has come to stand for excellence and quality within a remarkably short span of time.
