Active safety: driving safety, conditional safety, perceptibility safety, operating safety- passive safety: exterior safety, interior safety, Pedestrian Safety, deformation behaviour of vehicle body, speed and acceleration characteristics of passenger compartment on impact. UNIT 3 SAFETY EQUIPMENTS 9 Hrs. Seat belt, regulations, automatic seat belt tightener system, collapsible steering column, tilt able steering wheel, air bags, electronic system for activating air bags, bumper design for safety, type of safety glass & their requirements. ESP And EBD Systems. Collision warning system, causes of rear end collision, frontal object detection, rear vehicle object detection system UNIT 4 VEHICLE ERGONOMICS 9 Hrs. Introduction to vehicle ergonomics, Cockpit Design, Driver Comfort – Seating, Visibility, Man-Machine System- Psychological Factors – Stress, Attention, Passenger Comfort - Ingress and Egress, Spaciousness, Ventilation, Temperature Control, Dust and Fume Prevention and Vibration, Interior Features and Conveniences UNIT 5 COMFORT AND CONVENIENCE SYSTEM 9 Hrs. Steering system, types of different mirrors & their location, mirror adjustment, central locking system, Garage door opening system, tire pressure control system, rain sensor system, and environment information system. Max. 45 Hrs. COURSE OUTCOMES On completion of the course, student will be able to CO1 - Understand the importance of vehicle safety and explain different vehicle collision and its effects. CO2 - Explain different types of safety concept and understand the deformation behaviour of vehicle body during collision.
